5 ways Morning Brew monetized their Newsletter — and how you can do the same
Ever heard of Morning Brew?
It’s the simple newsletter that teleported two college students from obscurity to buzzed-about media millionaires by attracting the deep pockets of Business Insider.
And It all started with a mock interview.
Alex Lieberman, a University of Michigan student at the time, noticed that his colleagues had a difficult time digesting the dense financial news in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
Now, just like you need flour to make croissants, finance students needed the information in WSJ to be better financial analysts. So Lieberman did a mock interview to know why students were not keen on reading the WSJ.
What he found led to Morning Brew’s predecessor called Market Corner.
Lieberman found out that students didn’t read WSJ cover to cover because it was dense and tl;dr. So he created a newsletter that was a compilation of the WSJ’s most important financial analysis with a dash of witty humour. He dubbed this pdf-format newsletter Morning Corner and the first copy was shared with the 250 people who signed up to receive it.
And that’s how Austin Rief came across Market Corner.
